Void V03D Watches
Hong Kong resident and Swedish designer David Ericsson recently launched Void Watches back in 2008. The watch line includes quartz, digital, as well as automatic watches. They are known for their modernist Scandinavian aesthetic appeal. According to the way Ericsson puts it; their philosophy of design is to develop products that are unique by using as simple geometry as possible, and then bringing them to life with the use of traditional and honest materials. That philosophy resulted to effective and inventive results. Most importantly, while they carry class and style, they are also quite affordable.
A V03D Watch is a three hand analog that comes with a date function. It comes with a polished stainless steel case with a dimension of 38mm in width and 10mm in thickness, filled with mineral crystal and slim bezel. The movement, according to the company is reliable Miyota quartz, though there was no specific model mentioned.
Just like other affordable quartz watches, the second hand can be seen somewhere in between the markers. It has a water resistance level of 30m, therefore it is very important to keep it away from the pool area. The slim lugs are equipped with an unadorned leather strap, with a size of 18mm, tapered into a polished 16mm buckle.
The back case is also engraved and polished with the signature style of Ericsson, filled with basic specs as well as the URL of Void in the perimeter area. Since all surfaces are polished, not just the visible ones, it looks elegant. There is a push and pull crown that can be seen at 3:00. It is knurled, and large, offering a strike contrast to its case, which is highly polished. Both the crown and the buckle are engraved with the logo of Void.
The dial of the Void V03D watches is dark grey with blue printed and polished elements. The hours for the straight hour are also polished and applied, barely rising above the dial. There are also prints in between the indexes. The layout of the dial is vaguely military, as it comes with two sets of numerals in Arabic, printed in unadorned and clean typeface with a concentric arrangement.
Overall, aside from the meticulous design of the Void V03D watches, they are very comfortable to wear, and absolutely, and quite surprisingly versatile. Because it is equipped with modest dimensions, it can be slipped easily from under a cuff. Also, its grey colour matches well with the clothing on the colour spectrum’s cooler side. It may not present itself as a tool watch, but its knurled crown, paired with its vaguely military dial provides it with a functional vibe, which is perfect for a weekend getaway with jeans on.
