The Pebble watch is the debut designer watch for the collection of the Danish watch brand, Bulbul. The watch is not symmetric, round or square as the normal traditional watches are, but it is wonderfully crafted and has undergone some complex manufacturing processes. The Pebble titanium timepiece is named after the smooth stones found in the tiny seaside village of Hjerting in Denmark where Bulbul CEO, Jacob Juul, was raised because of the resemblance and also because it embodies his passion for iconic industrial design.
The Bulbul Pebble is one deceptively simple watch, looking like a traditional two-handed watch, fine-tuned in a Dali-esque fashion. The manufacturers of the Pebble set up factories to create oval, square, and circular watches and the subtle asymmetrical shape means almost every part of thewatch is customized – from the sapphire crystal on the watch face to hidden rubber rings inside the watch keeping it waterproof.
The Bulbul pebble watch comes with high quality design components – a Swiss precision movement as well sapphire glass – designed to last with the watch. The designs of the Bulbul Pebble watch are modern and subtle, with the use of classic materials such as steel and titanium for the cases.
The blue hoop of the Bulbul Pebble watch has three functions. Firstly, it is Bulbul’s trademark color used on its packaging and sales materials. Secondly, it summarizes the sublimate design approach which matches and combines the high and low-value materials used in production. Lastly, the injection molded silicon in the watch cannot easily break unlike the traditional leather option.
The Pebble luxury watch is organic like the human body as well as the pebbles found on many Scandinavian beaches. The designer watch combines its organic asymmetrical shapes and finely crafted Italian leather with an international hybrid of heritage. The industrial design of the Bulbul Pebble watch was a combined effort between three prominent Denmark designers, working together under the umbrella KiBiSi. KiBiSi represents the names of their firms: Kilo Design, Bjarke Ingels Group, and Skibsted Ideation.
